Applications for residents of the Town of Caledonia are available from the Town Clerk’s Office, or here, and must be completed by the applicant and his/her physician. The application is then returned to the Town Clerk’s Office.
Photo ID from the applicant is required (driver’s license or non-driver’s ID from New York State).
Upon receipt of the completed application, a permit is issued for a period of up to five years for a permanent disability and up to 6 months for a temporary illness with doctor’s prescribing or injury. The permit is valid in any handicapped parking space in New York State and is recognized in 38 other states as well.

No. To obtain an accessible parking permit, you must go to the town you reside in. If you are in Mumford, you will need to go to the Town of Wheatland. If you are in Le Roy, you will need to go to the Town of Le Roy.
A temporary accessible parking permit is good for 6 months. The permit is red in color, indicating the permit is just for a temporary illness.
A permanent accessible parking permit is good for 5 years. The permit is blue in color.
No. In order for us to process a new temporary parking permit, your doctor must fill out a new application each time.
To renew your existing permanent parking permit, simply bring the old parking permit back to our office and we will issue you a new permit for five more years. We must have your original application on file and you in our licensing system to provide a renewal.
Yes. If you are permitting another person to pick up your accessible parking permit, we can give them the permit to deliver to you. Additionally, if you need a permit mailed, we can do that also. Please provide the person picking up your permit with a photocopy of your New York State ID or driver’s license. We will need the 9-digit number from your State ID to process the application and issue the permit.
Yes. As long as you are with your driver, you may utilize the accessible parking permit. The permit is licensed to the individual, not to the vehicle, and can be moved from vehicle to vehicle.
Yes. We can issue up to 2 permits, however, cannot issue additional permits.
In the event that your permit has been lost or stolen, you may come to our office and we can issue you another permit.
No. Accessible Parking Permits are free to qualifying individuals.
In the event that your accessible parking permit is damaged, breaks into pieces, or is no longer usable, simply stop by our office and the Clerk may replace the permit.
If your physician wrote the permit out as a temporary and you want a permanent, you will need to contact your doctor’s office to get them to fill out a new application. We must follow what the doctor writes on the application.
If you’ve recently moved to Caledonia and need to renew your accessible parking permit, you may either provide us with a new application filled out by your physician, or, you may contact the Town you moved from to have them email us a copy of the already completed permit application. We will file this application in our office and future permits can be renewed hassle-free.
It is not recommended to leave your permit up while driving, as it may reduce visibility which could lead to an accident. New York State recommends keeping the permit in your glove box in your vehicle. Additinally, leaving the permit hanging in the sun for hours decreases the life of the permit.
An accessible parking permit is either red (temporary) or blue (permanent). They are made to hang on your mirror when you are parked in an accessible parking space.
No. The Clerk will not issue a permit for anyone known to be deceased. The permit is for those who really need it and it is up to your physician to provide you with a script for one if you feel you need one.
